Breaking the Silence on Domestic Violence

According to the CDC and WHO respectively, 1 in 3 American men experience physical or sexual violence or stalking by an intimate partner within their lifetime. 1 in 3 women worldwide experience physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner or sexual violence by a non partner in their lifetime.

The thing is, domestic abuse and violence go beyond physical and sexual assault. There is also emotional, psychological, legal, and financial abuse.

I'm Ingrid Dutton and I empower people to break the silence on domestic violence through bold education, real talk, and unstoppable strength.

Ingrid Profile Photo

Ingrid

I have always been a stubborn, passionate person since childhood. I was born in the United States in the southern state of Georgia. I spent my childhood in Wisconsin, went to college in Minnesota, started and expanded on my nursing career in Florida, and finally settled in Tennessee.

I have three children, three dogs, a full-time job, and now two podcasts. In my spare time (I do have some) I enjoy gardening, exercising, reading, and socializing with the amazing people I have in my life. Those amazing people know the full details of my personal battle with domestic violence and helped me get through a terrifying, traumatic chapter in my life. Some of those same people confided in me with their domestic violence experiences. Those stories devastated me, but sparked that passionate stubbornness I have.

I began researching domestic violence and decided enough is enough. 1 in 3 was created when I learned all of the gross statistics. I want to give survivors, friends and families the opportunity and platform to let their stories be heard. Why? Part of healing is knowing you’re not alone. Part of getting yourself out of dangerous situation is knowing it can be done. Each warrior who chooses to tell their story has their own personal reason to do so. Their strength and bravery is so inspirational!

Healing looks different for everyone. Therapy, humor, and music has and continues to help me. I created a public Spotify playlist with a link available on this website. It’s there for you to download. It isn’t complete and I would love for you to send me your song to add! There is also a “resources” tab which gives a list of resources if you need help right now.

💜It isn’t your fault. There is hope. Stay strong and wherever you are in your journey, always remember you are not alone.💜
